Brave Steps at Brighton and Hove Children’s Festival
Brighton Children’s Festival hosted a creative, interactive and sensory event for 0-2 year olds at the Dome on Saturday 14th April called Brave Steps. The event was developed and presented by a team of artists working in partnership with the Recreate Trust and gave parents an opportunity to follow their children’s interests in a relaxed environment, and to notice the way that their children responded.
When babies are born, only 20-25% of their brains are developed. In the first three years their brains develop faster than at any other time in the rest of their lives. Input into babies’ lives at this stage creates synaptic connections, and creates context and meaning and knowledge. At this age, the experiences we provide and share with our children can shape the way their brains develop.
The artist team was: Alex Sutton-Vane, Anne Colvin, Clare Halstead, Jane Gordon, Jenny Staff, Vicky Cave
Here’s some of the feedback we had from parents:
“Our 7 month old was in heaven - lovely stuff!”
“A really nice chance to watch A. make decisions and explore in a safe environment.”
“L & G loved it! Gave us some great ideas for things to do at home as well - thanks!”
“Really enjoyed today, we would definitely be interested in attending sessions, thank you.”
